The Story of Selena Voss

rating: 0+x

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX-1 through SCP-XXXX-5 are to be kept in standard humanoid containment units within Humanoid Containment Section 2 of Site-180. Since all attempts to prevent the happenings of SCP-XXXX have proven inefficient thus far, SCP-XXXX-1 through SCP-XXXX-5 are allowed to interact with one another, and are able to utilize recreational facilities at any time with permission from Level 3 Personnel or higher.

Description: SCP-XXXX is the designation given to an anomalous recursive phenomena affecting five human subjects (designated SCP-XXXX-1 through SCP-XXXX-5). SCP-XXXX happenings appear to have an uncanny similarity to the events of Oscar Wilde's "The Portrait of Dorian Gray". SCP-XXXX-1 through SCP-XXXX-5 appear to play the rolls of five characters in the book.

SCP-XXXX-1 is a human female in late adolescence formerly known as Selena Voss. SCP-XXXX-1 appears to play the roll of the character Sybil Vane. SCP-XXXX-1 was discovered with a copy of the book in question, claiming to have received it through anomalous means. It also claims that SCP-XXXX started after it acquired the copy. For more information, see Addendum X.

SCP-XXXX-2 is a human male in late adolescence formerly known as James Voss. SCP-XXXX-2 appears to play the roll of the character James Vane.

SCP-XXXX-3 is a young adult human male formerly known as Dorian Whiles. SCP-XXXX-3 appears to play the roll of the character Dorian Gray.

SCP-XXXX-4 is a young adult human male formerly known as Booker Halls. SCP-XXXX-4 appears to play the roll of the character Basil Hallward.

SCP-XXXX-5 is an adult human male formerly known as Henry Cotton. SCP-XXXX-5 appears to play the roll of the character Lord Henry Wotton.

SCP-XXXX's anomalous properties became apparent on 10/09/2001 during a stage performance SCP-XXXX-1 took part in. SCP-XXXX-1 had taken its own life the night before during a performance of Les Misérables. SCP-XXXX-1 had assumed the roll of Cosette, a character who is not planned to die within the performance. The following day, SCP-XXXX-1 showed up to work unharmed. When questioned, it explained that earlier that day, a man that it admired (SCP-XXXX-3) had insulted its performance during the matinee performed earlier. SCP-XXXX-1 explained it had no history of depression or suicidal tendencies, but that it "just felt right".

It is notable that during the initial run of SCP-XXXX, SCP-XXXX-2 through SCP-XXXX-4 were all terminated in similar ways to those of the characters it is assumed they represent; SCP-XXXX-2 through SCP-XXXX-4 returned to life the day following their respective terminations.

Addendum:

Preface: The following is an interview conducted immediately following acquisition of SCP-XXXX-1 by Dr. Eleanor Briggs, a member of the Ethics Committee. During acquisition, she was posing as a member of Mental Health Outreach for the Gracie Square Hospital in Manhattan, New York City. SCP-XXXX-1 was detained by Dr. Eleanor Briggs following it's voluntary admission to the Gracie Square Hospital citing that it had found itself looking at "suicide as an admirable last resort option", which it stated "was quite a frightening and alien thought."

[Commence Interview Log]

Dr. Briggs: Good afternoon, Selena. My name is Dr. Eleanor Briggs, I'm a member of the Mental Health Outreach team here at Gracie Square Hospital.

SCP-XXXX-1: I can tell I need help Doctor, I just … I don't understand what's going on with me.

Dr. Briggs: I think it would help us both if you started from the beginning, don't you? Can you tell me when you began experiencing these thoughts?

SCP-XXXX-1 shuffled nervously in its seat.

SCP-XXXX-1: They began when I met Mr. Whiles after my matinee last Tuesday1. He was sat in the upper stalls during the performance and every-time he smiled, my heart lit up … I thought I was in love from the moment I saw him. You've seen Les Mis, right Doctor?

Dr. Briggs: That information isn't necessary, is it?

SCP-XXXX-1: No, I suppose not. Anyways, following my performance, he came backstage. I still have no idea how he got back there, but he did. He started, he…

SCP-XXXX-1's voice trails off and it begins to cry, speaking through its tears.

SCP-XXXX-1: He. He confessed that he loved me, that I belonged with him for all eternity. That, I was the object of his desire. I was startled, scared, and alone. I ran into the dressing rooms to escape him. But all around me, I could hear his voice. He was still there, and with me.

Dr. Briggs: I don't quite follow, Selena, are you saying this man stalked you into the dressing rooms?

SCP-XXXX-1: N-no, I mean, his voice was still with me. He kept saying how much he loved me, how much he desired and longed, and wanted me. But then, he changed, or the voice did. I'm still not sure whether he was there or if it was the voice.

Dr. Briggs: Try and stay focused here Selena, you were saying that his voice changed. What changed in his voice?

SCP-XXXX-1: He began insulting me, or rather the voice did. It was saying that I was terrible, that I should just give up on theatre, th-that I'd be better off dead… that I was nothing but a cheap harlot that had been thrust from the street into the limelight..

Dr. Briggs: Is this what prompted the breakdown during your performance later that night?

SCP-XXXX-1 nods and nervously taps her toes against the floor.

SCP-XXXX-1: He was there, Mr. Whiles, Dorian. He was watching again with a malicious smirk and I couldn't, the voices got louder and louder. Screaming, yelling, and shrieking in my ears. I couldn't recite my lines or do anything. H-he was right.. I was nothing more than a cheap whore.. and so I, I.

Dr. Briggs: Took your own life. We have confiscated evidence that you utilised the apparatus to asphyxiate yourself, and yet here you are, in front of my very own eyes.

SCP-XXXX-1 breaks down into tears once again.
